The 16th Sustainment Brigade is the only European-based sustainment brigade and provides a full range of sustainment support to U.S. Army Europe and Africa units. The Knight's Brigade is comprised of Soldiers, Civilians, and Local Nationals serving throughout Europe. We provide strategic, operational, and tactical-level sustainment support to organizations throughout the U.S. European Command and on order U.S. Africa Command area of operations, including USAREUR units and those deployed in support of exercises and operations.

As the U.S. Army's largest forward deployed logistics command, we have a diverse, complex, and exciting mission to provide support in peacetime, and during contingency operations contributing to the Global War on Terrorism. Your assignment to the 16th SB includes a warm welcome into your local community which is dependent on which unit you are assigned to within the Brigade. We have personnel located in Kaiserslautern, Baumholder, and Grafenwoehr in Germany as well as Vicenza in Italy.

Soldiers from the 1st Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 39th Movement Control Battalion, showcase the new Convoy Support Center kit at Baumholder, Germany, to demonstrate the CSC's capabilities to leadership of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command. November 20, 2020 — DRAWSKO PROMORSKIE, Poland – The 55th and 221st Quartermaster Company’s represented the 16th Sustainment Brigade at Drawsko Promorskie training area Aug. 8, to engage in a capabilities demonstration from the Polish 1th Pomeranian Logistics Brigade. In an effort to increase interoperability and mutual understanding with our allies the Soldiers had the chance to see the field baking equipment in action and try their hand in using it! October 7, 2020 — Born in Batumi, a city resting on the coast of the Black Sea in the country of Georgia, U.S. Army Sgt. Nikolas Petrosyan made a promise to his grandfather to join the United States Army. 221st Quartermaster Company (FFC) Activation
September 14, 2020 — GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – The 221st Quartermaster Company (Field Feeding Company), 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade, held an Activation ceremony July 16, 2020. As part of the ceremony, the uncasing of the unit colors was conducted. The 221st QMs first sergeant and guidon bearer, 1st Sgt. Felicia M. Allen, lowered the cased guidon, allowing Capt. Claire L. Marlow, commander, 221st QM, to uncase it. Lt. Col. Charles V. Jaquillard, commander, 18th CSSB, then rotated the guidon staff, formally unfurling the unit colors... MORE

History

The 16th Sustainment Brigade was constituted Oct. 29, 1965, as the 16th Corps Support Group (CSG) and activated Dec. 10, 1965, in the Dominican Republic. On Oct. 25, 1968, the unit was inactivated at Fort Benning, Ga. and re-designated Sept. 16, 1987, in Germany.

2002
On May 1, 2002, the 16th CSG was re-aligned to include the 181st Transportation Battalion located at Turley Barracks in Mannheim, Germany, and the 485th Corps Support Battalion (CSB) located on Hutier Kaserne, to increase their combat service support capabilities.
2003
In March 2003, the 16th CSG and its battalions deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where it provided logistical support to include direct support maintenance, transportation and supply support to all units in the theater.
2004
The 485th CSB established base camp operations in Kuwait and then assumed the role of convoy support operations at CSC Peterbilt and Kenworth before relocating to FLB Dogwood and finally to Al Taji Military Base, then returning to Germany in 2004. Commanding and controlling over 3000 logistical Soldiers, Team 16 armed, fueled, fixed, moved and sustained Combined Joint Task Force 7 forces for a year during combat and stability operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The 181st Transportation Battalion established base camp operations in Kuwait at Camp New York, Camp New Jersey, Camp Pennsylvania and Camp Udari before 'crossing the berm' into Iraq to establish convoy support operations at Cedar, Bushmaster, Dogwood, Taji and Anaconda. The battalion's assets played an important role in not only local-haul, but also long-haul missions carrying every class of supply. In addition to Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 16th CSG also participated in operations in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Kosovo.
2007
In January 2007, the lineage and honors were designated to be transferred to the 16th Sustainment Brigade. On July 16, 2007, the 16th Sustainment Brigade was activated in Warner Barracks, U.S. Army Garrison Bamberg, Germany, composed of the 16th Special Troops Battalion, Bamberg; the 391st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Bamberg; and the 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Grafenwoehr.
2008
In July 2008, the brigade deployed to Iraq and provided sustainment, combat support, and force protection operations in support of Multi-National Division-North through expert life support and logistical operations.
Today, our units play a major role in operations across the European theater, supporting Atlantic Resolve and countless missions, exercises and operations as part of the U.S. Army Europe 'Strong Europe' campaign.

		The 16th Sustainment Brigade Special Troops Battalion has units located on five different installations across Germany and Italy. The battalion relocated from Bamberg to Baumholder, Germany, as part of the Army's Transformation in late 2012. 		The 39th Movement Control Battalion teams provide tailored and adaptive transportation, expeditionary logistical capabilities for transportation, movement control and distribution in support of the U.S. European Command supporting the deployment, re-deployment, and sustainment of forces. Mission: The 39th Trans. Bn. also provides well trained and equipped deployable units to support combatant commanders and Overseas Contingency Operations and provides transportation and movement control support to the EUCOM and, on order, to the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibilities.
