Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend Safety

USAREUR-AF Four Day Holiday Weekend, 17–20 January 2025

As we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this long holiday weekend offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect, recharge, and prepare for the challenges ahead.

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend, I encourage you to review the winter safety guidance provided by the U.S. Army Safety Center (CRC): Fall-Winter Safety 2024 (https://safety.army.mil/MEDIA/Seasonal-Safety-Campaigns/Fall-Winter-Safety-2024).

Safety Reminders:

1. Drive Safely and Defensively Defensive driving is our best protection against adverse conditions. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, plan your route, and adjust your driving to minimize hazards. Reduce your speed, follow traffic rules, and maintain an increased following distance.

2. Look Out for Yourself and Each Other We face many challenges, but vigilance and mutual support can prevent tragedies. Be aware of your surroundings and take proactive measures to mitigate risks. Turning a blind eye to potential hazards can lead to regrettable outcomes.

3. Don’t Drink and Drive If you choose to consume alcohol, be responsible. Drunk driving takes lives, destroys families, and ends promising military careers. Never operate any motorized or electric vehicles, including scooters, while under the influence. It’s non-negotiable.

Final Thoughts:

Your safety is paramount. Take precautions, look out for one another, and make the most of this well-deserved weekend.
