21st Theater Sustainment Command Fact Sheet

Providing First in Support across U.S. Army Europe and Africa

 

The 21st Theater Sustainment Command executes assigned missions, plans contingency operations in the European theater; while also serving as a Joint Security Area Operations. In doing so, Team 21 not only ensures a theater capable of supporting routine operations, but also deterrence and contingency operations.  Team 21 also enables and facilitates the rapid receiving and deploying of military forces to maintain a strong Europe and execute joint security area operations.

MISSION: 21st Theater Sustainment Command executes mission command of operational sustainment across the European Theater, conducts Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration, sets the Atlantic Resolve Joint Operations Area, executes theater opening, theater distribution, and theater sustainment in support of U.S. European Command and North Atlantic Treaty Organization operations; and, as directed executes joint security operations, and support to U.S. Africa Command operations.

VISION: 21st Theater Sustainment Command achieves something bigger than the sum of our pieces. We are capable of integrating with the Joint Logistics Enterprise, our NATO Allies and Partners. Team 21 is a NATO ready, theater responsive, Soldier-focused, cohesive team providing scalable mission command and sustainment capabilities to combatant commanders and Regionally Aligned Forces in an increasingly complex environment.

HISTORY: U.S. Army's 21st Theater Sustainment Command extends back for more than half a century. In 1951, U.S. Army Europe and Africa established a separate command to handle logistics functions in its area of operations that lasted until 1974. Called U.S. Army Communications Zone Europe, or COMZEUR, this forerunner of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command set the stage for a more than 50 year history of premier logistics support to U.S. Army Europe and Africa that continues today.

Today, 21st Theater Sustainment Command is U.S. Army Europe and Africa's lead organization for all sustainment activities including logistics support, transportation, combat sustainment, human resources, finance, contracting and other areas in the field of sustainment. The 21st TSC also serves as the responsible headquarters for USAREUR-AF's military police, medical and sustainment brigades, providing combat engineers and military police to partnership training and other operations supporting USAREUR-AF, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Central Command.
